Patch cables: Short and Swift 

Patch cables are used for connecting one electrical device to another for sending signals. They can also be used to connect two optical devices. They can be either electrical or optical. Patch cords are very useful in connecting different kinds of devices to one other. For instance for connecting a computer to a switch, patch cable is used.  If you are going out to buy patch cable you will find a variety of colors in which they are being manufactured. The use of colors not only make them look different from other types of cables but also attract large number of customers towards it.  
There are available different types of patch cables in the market which include headphone extension cable, microphone cable, snake cable and a few more. One can choose any of them depending on his needs and requirements. If we look at the structure of the patch cables we will find that they consist of coaxial cables.  
In patch cable the positive signal is made to pass through the core which is shielded in order to prevent noise disturbance and attenuation. The negative signal is made to pass through a mesh of wire which is present just outside the core. At the two ends of cable there are present connectors for connecting the patch cable to some device. Patch cables are generally small in size. A patch cable is given the name pigtail if it is very small in size.
